In this video we represent an inter view of Mr. Kapilcharan Ganguly a villegers of Charida, Purulia. our topic is Chho Nacher Utso Sandhane Puruliyar Charida Grame. Charida, a village is culturally rich Purulia district. This village is famous for mask makers of the traditional folk dance Chhou. There are near about 300 skilled mask makers of the celebrated dance form of the region, Chhau dance. It is an acrobatic martial art based dance form inscribed in UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This quaint village in the land of red laterite soil is located at the scenic foothills of Ayodhya hills, abot 5 km from Baghmundi. Our students collect materials of folklore and folk art from here. We also collect some vibrant, colorful masks for our folk museum.
Folk Dance dance of primitive or rural communities originating from their culture and closely reflecting their way of life. West Bengal, folk dances have flourished since ancient times. Folk dances are passed down from one generation to another, and, although the artistes have a great deal of liberty in performance, the basic form remains the same.
Folk dances are performed singly or in groups. Group dances are more common, reflecting community or collective thinking. Singing is an essential part of these dances. Chhou dance is mainly a masked dance and martial dance or war dance of Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, Paschim Medinipur etc. This dance is very popular in these districts of West Bengal. There are many types of chhou pala like Mahishasur badh, Mahiraban badh, Radhakrishna lila, etc.
